City to Surf 07
The annual City to Surf fun run will be held Sunday, August 26. It’s one of the most popular events on the Perth calendar; over 26,000 people participated last year. The basic premise is that you run from Perth city to City Beach with your entry fees going to Activ, an NPO supporting people with disabilities, and hopefully get your gob on the news while you’re at it!
There are several courses, the main one being the 12-km run from St Georges Tce to City Beach oval. Of course, if running isn’t your strength but you still want to be involved, walking is fine. It kicks off at 8:15 Sunday morning. Here’s the course. If you’re serious, there’s $2500 up for grabs!
Another option for serious runners is the 21.1km half-marathon starting 7:15 from SGT, which has a $3000 first place prize.
There’s a 4km walk/run too, if 12km seems a bit much. It starts from Perry Lakes at 9:45.
There’s also an 11km wheelchair event going from Kings Park at 8:15.

From years of experience, everything has been catered for. There are plenty of drink stops along the way. It might be cold in the morning, so you can wear a jumper before the gun and then have it taken to the finish line for you. There are also buses from City Beach back to town and Perry Lakes after the run. They’re free, but gold coin donations would be nice.
You can register and pay via credit card online, or at the free City to Surf Show at the Convention Centre from Aug 23-25. Entry fees for adults/children are $28/$18 online or $34/$18 at the Show. Remember, it’s for charity!
A popular option is to enter a team (family, business etc). You can download the entry form here. All team entries have to be in by August 17.

Australian Surf Life Saving Championships
In 2007 the Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will be held at Scarborough Beach from the 22 to the 25 of March 2007, with more than 8,000 surf lifesavers from 200 clubs around Australia expected to show their colours:
The Australian Surf Life Saving Championships are the climax of a busy season for surf lifesavers. Clubs and individuals pit themselves against the elements and their peers to prove they are the best rescue and resuscitation outfits, ironmen, swimmers, boat crews, march past teams, ski paddlers, board riders and runners.
The 2007 Australian Surf Life Saving Championships will be even more special, because it will be the Year of the Lifesaver – marking the centenary of the first surf life saving association in 1907.
