Lunar eclipse

That’s right moon men, tonight, August 28, from everywhere in Australia if you look up and east between about 6pm and 8pm Perth time you should be able to see a lunar eclipse. Apparently the moon will already by within the earth’s shadow by the time it becomes visible, so we can go straight to the good stuff! Here’s one we prepared earlier:

lunar eclipse

Unlike a solar eclipse, you can see this one with the naked eye, so ogle away, and take some photos if you can! Free moon cheese to the best one – post ‘em here.

24 Hour Stores in Perth

Perth has been roundly criticized for its archaic trading laws and, while they’re unlikely to change anytime soon, there are a still few shops scattered around the Perth Metro area that provide 24-hour service. If you absolutely need that ingredient for a cocktail recipe, you’ve run out of milk, or you’re looking for a feed after hitting the clubs, consult our guide to 24 hour shops of Perth below.

Comet, Fireworks and Lightning

A tradition in Perth on the 26th of January, Australia Day, is to head down to the river foreshore or the beach at Fremantle, and watch the fireworks. This year, people looking up at the night sky could also make out the tail of the comet McNaught. On the coast near Fremantle, Antti Kemppainen captured a stunning photo of the evening.
